Minutes for Meeting held Thursday, November 7, 2013.
Location: RHS room 3

l. Attending:  Brent Gubler, Dave Sorensen, Nathan Costa, Marc Peterson, Rand Janes, Jani Pearson, Elizabeth Finlinson, Kathy Christensen, Kristi Allred, Nancy Harris, Mark Stewart,
Excused: Sophie Addison

2. Minutes from the last meeting of April 8th, 2013 were reviewed. Motion to accept minutes was made by Kathy Christensen, Jani Pearson seconded the motion.  All voted to
approve and accept minutes.
Dave Sorensen noted that all parents should get on Utahfutures.org to see the o
Opportunities for students career and education opportunities are on the site.
Marc Peterson said senior students get the opportunitiy to use site in Financial
Literacy class.

3. It was noted that a position on the board is vacant and needs to be filled.  Kristy Allred was nominated and is now on the board, but no other people were nominated.  This will require nominations from the board.
Holly Woolsey was nominated.
Krista Frient was nominated.  She is on the PTO board.

It was motioned that Holly Woolsey be asked if she could participate.  If she declined Krista Frient would be asked next.  Elizabeth Finlinson made the motion. It was seconded by Jani Pearson.  All present voted in Favor.  Nancy Harris will call Holly Woolsey.

4.Overview of Community Council responsibilities was done by the Chairwoman, Nancy Harris. Handouts reviewed:

Power Point – School Community Councils – Working Together for School  Improvement
Timeline for school Community councils and the School Trust Program
A training meeting was held at the District Office which Nancy and Dave attended.
Parents need to be more involved.  The Trustland Money is growing and must be accounted for properly.
It requires information to be posted on the website, including the council and their emails and phone humbers,agendas and minutes to the meetings, when and where meetings will be held.
-Trust land money must be used for students academic benefit.
Our money in the past has been used for:
Study Sessions
Purchasing technology for teachers that helps students learn
Paying salaries for teachers to keep programs in the school. Ie. French, Spanish
Kristy Allred asked about Study Sessions.  A discussion of how they work.  They are held on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. and require a voucher to attend.
Suggestion made to inform 9th Graders of study sessions during Freshman Orientation.
Also, possible a newspaper article about what the trustlands is doing and the study sessions.

5. Review of Common Core – Mr. Sorensen will email the handout explaining the common core.  Discussed that it is to help students to think and be prepared for their future.  Use the handout to help explain it if questions are asked of you.

6. Mr. Costa Showed a few of the results of the parent, student, teacher survey from last Spring. This can be used to improve school  The CC is a stake holder for the High school and can offer ways to improve.

7. Mr. Sorensen showed how to get on to RichfieldHighSchool.org and onto the Community Council/Trustlands tab.
Proposed expenditures for this year:
Document Cameras for teachers
Purchase technology for teachers.
Study Sessions
Dave made a motion that these be approved.  Kathy Christensen seconded the motion.
All voted in favor.

9. Mr. Gubler made motion for meeting to be adjorned.  Jani Pearson Seconded. All agreed.
